THE PAINTED GARDEN
An exhibition of paintings celebrating my love of flowers
throughout the seasons
I have always loved picking flowers, as a young child I used to always pick flowers
from my parent’s garden. I would pop them in a small vase or jam jar and have
them next to my bed in my bedroom, this is something I still love to do today.
As part of the Northants and Rutland Open studios, I have selected original mixed
media paintings which celebrate my love of flowers and texture.
I am passionate about the shape, line, colour and form of flowers in their natural
space in the garden, and in floral arrangements in vases. The way floral shapes
interact with each other, and how different flowers compliment one another
always inspire me. If I see a beautiful rose in bloom in the garden, I love popping it
in a vase and painting it from my studio.
Anyone who knows me, and visits my home always comments on how many vases
of flowers I have dotted around!
I enjoy creating layers of texture with mixed media, acrylics, inks and copper leaf.
Using a palette knife helps to enhance my impressionistic style of working.
I am inspired by the continual cycle of nature, and all it has to offer through the
seasons. I aim for my floral paintings to give a sense of joy, to make an impact in a
dull space, to bring a simple subject to life in a painterly way through colour and
texture.
I hope you enjoy looking at them.
